Part 5: The Floating Egg

The Dead Sea lies 428 metres below sea level, assuming that is the level of the world’s oceans. Water from Jordan flows into it but cannot flow out, instead it can only evaporate. The salt is left behind, giving the Dead Sea extraordinary properties.

Through the internet chat of the British Interactive Group (which by the way is highly recommended to anyone who has anything to do with science shows) I came across the idea of testing a hardcode version of the floating egg experiment. Below in the container there is water from the Dead Sea, on top of which is the egg and above that freshwater. The experiment works, and is indeed very magnificent!

Here you can see that the egg is extremely stable floating between the two layers of water.
